PAC Update

As you most likely know by now the PAC is putting together gift baskets to raffle off at various events with all proceeds to go to the Knight family. You have all been amazingly generous. Thank you so much. We will be putting some baskets together this Friday. If you are interested in helping out, let us know and we'll let you know what time. We are hoping to raffle some of these off at the Demons game this weekend. Thanks again for pulling together to help out this family.

In terms of fundraising, the Christmas catalogues were all collected and the orders should be arriving in the next couple of weeks. The stikees went well and I hope everyone has their Christmas ones up! The Craft Fair went really well and thank you so much to those of you who donated baking. Smencils are still going well but we still have Christmas sets to sell. Please spread the word if you know of anyone who might want any and I could get them to them. They will be for sale again this Friday afterschool.

Traffic safety is still an ongoing issue and we are looking at having the RCMP come and teach the children about road safety. Also, we have a few parents who have stepped forward willing to donate their time as volunteer crossing guards. That is great! Thank you...However, we need at least 6 parents to step forward before the RCMP will offer a training session. If you are able to donate anytime, please let me know ASAP. Please remember to use the Harvest Church for pick ups and please use the CONTROLLED DESIGNATED parking lot for drop offs. Please also avoid stopping near the crosswalks as this can block the view of a child walking across the road. The roads are getting slippery and we cannot stop as quickly. Please be careful and take your time...Let's keep our children safe.

Don't forget Friday is anti-bullying day! Try and send your child in something pink. It can be a shirt, socks, scarf, toque, etc.

Santa's Workshop will be taking place on December 8th and 9th. For those of you who are new to this program, it is an opportunity for child to come and shop for family or friends without mom and dad around. We set up a Santa's Workshop in the computer room and they come shopping. They really enjoy it. Feel free to stop in at anytime if you would like to check it out. We could always use more volunteers in the room as well. As you can imagine it can get pretty chaotic!

Next PAC Meeting - October 16th

Campbell's Labels for Education

We are still slowly collecting Campbell's soup labels. Points are received for each label and can then be redeemed for merchandise (such as gym equipment, books) for our school.

Did you know that it is not just soup labels that we can collect? V8 Juice, Pace Salsa, Prego Sauce, Goldfish crackers, and much more. Visit the Campbell's Labels for Education - Eligible Products http://www.labelsforeducation.ca/english/eligible_exp.asp for a complete list.

There is a Campbell's box next to the PAC bulletin board at the main entry of the school where the labels can be dropped off.

Note: We are no longer able to collect Super Valu receipts as we have done in the past.

Stick-ees for sale!

Your child would have brought home a Stick-ees brochure last Thursday. If you would like to place an order please have order forms back to the school by Friday, September 26th. Students can give them directly to their teachers or parents can leave them in the PAC mailbox in the office.

Hi everyone! We are excited to begin another year. Just a little note for your information.

Tuesday, September 2nd:

School 8:30-10:30AM. The children will go to their last year's classrooms and be with their last year's teachers. Nobody will find out who their new teachers are on this day.

Wednesday, September 3rd:

School 8:30 starts

The primary children go into the gymnasium and the class lists will be posted on the wall. The intermediate children go to the back of the school and the class lists will be posted under the covered area on the back wall.

New school times will be:

8:30am school starts
12:05-1:05 pm lunch hour
2:58pm school dismissal

On the agenda is playground equipment. The govenment is giving all PACs the opportunity to submit a proposal and if approved PACs could receive up to $20,000 towards playground equipment for their school. We need to know how we could best spend this money to meet the needs of all of our children. Please join us and provide your valuable input!

Spring Catalogue Fundraiser

We are very pleased with the Spring Catalogue Fundraiser. We raised $2600.00!! Thank you to everyone who participated, we couldn't do it without you.

Campbell's Labels for Education and SuperValu receipts

Not sure if you are all aware that our school is still collecting Campbell's soup labels. We are! We can also collect Pepperidge goldfish crackers, Prego pasta sauce, and V8 juice. Points are collected for each label (make sure it includes the front panel and full UPC, or just UPC code on goldfish crakers) and the points can be redeemed for merchandise for Roy Wilcox school, such as gym equipment, music supplies etc. There is a box outside the school office and at SuperValu at the end of the check-out tills. Vist the Campbell's Labels for Education website for more details. Until the end of Feb, it is double the points on Campbell's condensed tomato and vegetable, homestyle tomato and vegetable, and 25% reduced sodium tomato soup.

We are also collecting SuperValu receipts. For every $5000 in till receipts, we receive a $20 SuperValu gift certificate for our school. The receipts can be put in with the Campbell's labels.

Spread the word around. Get your extended families involved. Let's get collecting!

Update and next meeting....

Thank you to those of you that came out for the meeting last Thursday. We had a member of the RCMP come to discuss the DARE program with us and whether or not the PAC would be interested in supporting this program. It was agreed by all that the PAC would contribute $600.00 to this worthwhile cause.

Also with the profits from Santa's Workshop, it was decided that the PAC would donate $300.00 each to both the Kitimat Food Hamper and the SPCA.

Our next scheduled meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb 22/07 at 7:00 pm. We would love to have you join us!

We have had a parent graciously offer to set up and maintain a school website on behalf of the school.....watch for it coming soon! We haven't had a school website for many years and the School District is unable to provide us with one at this time. This was the reason the PAC made the decision to go ahead and support one of our own. This blog will continue for all PAC news and information and will be linked on the school website.

Santa's Workshop

Once again the PAC is bringing a wonderful opportunity to the school for your children. Santa's Workshop is a small store set up at the school where your child(ren) can purchase inexpensive Christmas gifts for their families. Information came home with the children last week. December 11th the children will be able to view the items and December 12th will be the day students bring their money and do their shopping.

Some of our PAC mom's have offered to run a scrapbooking club for the kids afterschool. We are very excited about it. The club meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month in the library from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Bring along 3 to 5 photos, 2 to 3 colors of paper, glue sticks, stickers and any other embellishments you want. Need more information or want to help out? The playground is finished and the kids seem to be really enjoying it!

$30,000 was raised to purchase this much needed playground equipment for the kids!

By now your child should have brought home their Christmas Catalogue fundraiser package. This campaign runs from September 18th to October 2nd. It is important to remember to make sure that along with your child's name you also include the name of your child's teacher on the form. All cheques are to be made payable to Roy Wilcox PAC. Please ensure to keep the yellow copy for your records.

Vacant Executive Positions

PAC - Parent Advisory Council

The parent voice at the school level, advising on any matter relevant to the school. Represents the collective views of parent/guardians of children in a school.

As previously noted, we have three vacant positions on our Executive. These positions will be nominated and voted on at the October 19/06 PAC Meeting. Maybe one is right for you.

The positions are:

Co-Chair: Assists with Chair duties along with Chairperson, Kathy Demelo.

Secretary: Attends monthly PAC meetings and records the minutes. Also required to distribute minutes through email following the meeting and as well have hard copies available at the next meeting.

DPAC (District Parent Advisory Council) Rep: Liaison between PAC, DPAC and BCCPAC. This person is the parent voice at the School District Level; informing, advising and educating. Respresents the collective view of PACs in a school district....a valuable link between local PACs and the school board. Required to attend both PAC and DPAC meetings. DPAC meetings occur approx. 3 times per year.
